Adopt a Stream

Over the past 8 years ACAP Cape Breton has restored 12 freshwater ecosystems, representing over 50 kilometers of restored freshwater habitats; through the installation of digger logs, deflectors, planting vegetation and the removal of illegal dumpsites.

In January of 2007, after completing a habitat assessment for 12 streams in Eastern Cape Breton, ACAP Cape Breton’s staff ecologist concluded that Wentworth Brook, Wash Brook and Mud Lake Brook need additional restoration to ensure that a healthy habitat is maintained for local wildlife.

In order to improve and enhance fish habitat in the three ecosystems, ACAP Cape Breton will reduce the number of debris dams, improve the number of pools through digger log maintenance, clean illegal dumpsites located adjacent to the brooks and re-vegetate stream banks where necessary. These changes will have a significant impact on the environment, restoring fish habitat and maintaining the ecosystems beauty.
