Aliens on the Beach

Project UFO (Unidentified Foreign Organisms) will be holding an “Aliens on the Beach” survey Friday, July 24 at Dominion Beach from 12:00-3:00pm.

The surveys are open to the public. Everyone, young and old is encouraged to join us on the beach and participate!

Project UFO, in cooperation with ACAP Cape Breton (ACAPCB) will be coordinating volunteer Aliens on the Beach Surveys throughout the summer to census invasive species that have already arrived, and to be on the lookout for ones that may be on their way. This survey is a scientifically sound volunteer monitoring program to help us better understand the status of invasive alien species in our estuarine and coastal habitats. Surveys will be conducted throughout the summer months (June through September) and primarily on local beaches within Cape Breton Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. Scientists from ACAPCB and CBU will be compiling the data collected from the survey, and results will be shared with the public.
