Overview: World Water Day is held annually on March 22. This year, the theme for World Water Day is “accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis,” with the campaign called “be the change.”
Using these two themes, we are asking applicants to write a 500-750 word essay on how do we protect and conserve water in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality?
To help your thinking, consider the following questions. These questions are intended to guide your thinking and you do not have to answer all of them in your essay. Your essay should be in paragraph form, and not question-and-answer style.
-
Why is freshwater important?
-
What water issues affect the Cape Breton Regional Municipality?
-
How does climate change affect water availability and quality? What about the impacts from humans and industrial activity (e.g. water pollution)?
-
How can youth help to protect and conserve water resources? What are actions we all can take to ensure the protection of freshwater resources?
