In response to the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss, ACAP Cape Breton is dedicated to taking action to enhance climate resiliency and promote biodiversity on Cape Breton Island. ACAP’s Forest Restoration branch of our Habitat Restoration team focuses on the restoration of indispensable forest ecosystems.

Forests play a vital role in habitat preservation and overall ecosystem health. They also provide a range of ecosystem services. Creating oxygen, mitigating human air pollution, filtering runoff, and storing and sequestering carbon are some of the invaluable services these ecosystems provide for all living organisms.

Formed in 2022, the Forest Restoration team at ACAP Cape Breton brings together highly skilled environmental practitioners, university-level interns, and dedicated community volunteers. Together, we leverage our expertise to strengthen our local ecosystems through reforestation and afforestation efforts.

By combining applied research–based restoration methods with effective forestry practices, our team strives to ensure the successful regeneration of these critical ecosystems.

It’s more than just planting trees.
